Abstract

As a result of the efforts of scholars of criticism and authentication in judging the narrators of hadith, there was a difference between scholars of criticism and authentication in judging some narrators between criticizing and approving, and critics needed to give preference to one of the two judgments to determine the rank of the narrator. Among what was used in giving preference was the rule that the people of the narrator’s country know his hadith best, as many texts were reported from the imams of hadith indicating the use of this rule, especially in giving preference when criticism and authentication conflict. The rule was also used to distinguish between narrators from the same country with similar names, and it was also used to give preference to the narration of a narrator who is from the sheikh’s country over a stranger’s narrator; because the people of the country are more knowledgeable about the hadith of their sheikhs, with the warning that the critic or authenticator from the narrator’s country should be from the scholars who are knowledgeable about criticism and authentication, and that there should be no impediment in the criticism or authentication from the people of the country that prevents taking it.
